Gallwespen (Cynipidae) sind die unscheinbaren Vertreter der Wespen und Hautflügler. Es gibt mehr als 1.000 Unterarten. Die Eichengallwespe (Cynips quercusfolii) ist meist naturinteressierten Menschen durch die Galläpfel (Galle) bekannt. Diese werden durch die Eiche als Wirtspflanze an den Unterseiten der Blätter gebildet, nachdem die adulte Gallwespe dort ein Ei abgelegt hat. Es handelt sich bei dem Gallapfel um eine kugelige grüne, später rot bis braun gefärbte Kugel von 10 bis 22 Millimeter Durchmesser. Die Oberfläche der Galle ist außen glatt und innen fleischig und dickwandig, sie dient der Larve als Nahrung und Schutz. Beim Öffnen der noch fleischigen Galle verfärbt sich deren Inneres beim Luftkontakt blauschwarz. Nach der Reife wird sie braun und schrumpelt zusammen. Die Galle wurde mindestens seit dem Mittelalter zur Farbstoffgewinnung für Schwarz verwendet. Es gibt verschiedene Rezepturen und Anwendungsnachweise.

Gall wasps (Cynipidae) are the inconspicuous representatives of wasps and hymenoptera. There are more than 1,000 subspecies. The oak gall wasp (Cynips quercusfolii) is mostly known to people interested in nature through the gall apples (gall). These are formed by the oak host plant on the undersides of the leaves after the adult gall wasp has laid an egg there. The gall is a spherical green, later red to brown colored ball with a diameter of 10 to 22 millimeters. The surface of the gall is smooth on the outside and fleshy and thick-walled on the inside; it serves as food and protection for the larva. When the still fleshy gall opens, its interior turns blue-black on contact with the air. After maturing, it turns brown and shrivels up. The gall has been used as a dye for black since at least the Middle Ages. There are various recipes and proofs of use.

Bei der Installation GALLWESPEN nehme ich das Phänomen aus der Naturwissenschaft auf und behandele es gleichberechtigt neben der Idee, Collagen oder Papierfaltungen auf die Umsetzbarkeit einer ästhetischen Inszenierung hin zu überprüfen. Im Ergebnis behalten die Elemente ihre künstlerische Autonomie.

Den Hintergrund für diese Installation bildet die anthrazitfarbene Papierarbeit, die Namensgeber und Hauptdarsteller zugleich ist, denn in ihr finden sich die entscheidenden Papierelemente, die ein Eichenblatt und die Galle darstellen. In dieser Entscheidung ist eine Illustration angelegt, die Illustration eines Naturphänomens.

Der Gallapfel befindet sich in meiner Realisation jedoch auf der Oberseite eines bereits von Galle schwarz verfärbten Blattes. Er tanzt auf jedem Eichenblatt und wird durch Position und seriellen Charakter sichtbarer als in freier Natur.

In the GALLWESPEN installation, I take up the phenomenon from the natural sciences and treat it on an equal footing with the idea of examining collages or paper folds for the feasibility of an aesthetic staging. As a result, the elements retain their artistic autonomy.
The background for this installation is the anthracite-colored paper work, which is both the namesake and the main actor, as it contains the decisive paper elements that represent an oak leaf and the gall. This decision is an illustration, the illustration of a natural phenomenon.
In my realization, however, the gall apple is located on the upper side of a leaf that has already turned black with gall. It dances on each oak leaf and is more visible than in the wild due to its position and serial character.
